The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is proud to present:

The North Shore International Film Series
Park and Tilford Cineplex, 333 Brooksbank Ave, North Vancouver

January 25th at 7 pm- Anonymous, Directed by: Roland Emmerich
For decades, scholars and intellectuals have debated a question that haunts the history of English literature: were the works of William Shakespeare written by Shakespeare himself? Anonymous poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

February 1st at 7 pm- Monsieur Lazhar, Directed by: Philippe Falardeau
When an elementary school teacher commits suicide, her class is shaken to the core. No one wants to talk about it except her replacement, Bachir Lazhar (Fellag), an Algerian immigrant seeking political asylum.
As the film proceeds and it becomes painfully clear that the children cannot move on without addressing why Lazhar’s predecessor took her own life. A nuanced and incomparably beautiful work, Monsieur Lazhar is one of this year’s most emotionally affecting films.

February 22nd at 7pm– A Separation, Directed by: Asghar Farhadi
Set in contemporary Iran, A Separation is a compelling drama about the dissolution of a marriage. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh. Simin sues for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his Alzheimer-suffering father. Her request having failed, Simin returns to her parents’ home, but Termeh decides to stay with Nader. When Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father in his wife’s absence, he hopes that his life will return to a normal. However, when he discovers that the new maid has been lying, he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage.

March 7th at 7 pm- Margin Call, Directed by: J.C. Chandor
Set in the high-stakes world of the financial industry, Margin Call is an entangling thriller involving the keyplayers at an investment firm during one perilous 24-hour period in the early stages of the 2008 financial crisis. When an entry-level analyst unlocks information that could prove to be the downfall of the firm, a roller-coaster ride ensues as decisions both financial and moral catapult the lives of all involved.
